The Science

At the heart of a Calm Down Bottle is sensory play. Engaging multiple senses (sight, touch, sound) helps ground the mind and body in the present moment.

Watching the glitter or beads gently float through the liquid engages the brain's parasympathetic nervous system, which calms the body after a stress response. This simple visual task helps reduce anxiety by triggering the body's natural relaxation response.

  • Sight

    The swirling glitter and floating objects capture attention and give the brain something soothing to focus on. The slow movement mimics the natural rhythm of breathing, encouraging deeper, slower breaths.

  • Touch

    While the visual is key, simply holding the bottle and shaking it can provide a comforting tactile experience. Some bottles have added textures, making them an extra sensory delight.

  • Sound

    Depending on what's inside, some Calm Down Bottles make soft sounds when shaken. This can add another calming sensory layer to the experience.
