How Indigenous Literacy Day is important for our Coolamon Pendant

On Wednesday the 7th of September this year, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation will be presenting their National event, Indigenous Literacy Day which will be hosted this year by the Sydney Opera House. This year the event is going digital where individuals will be able to register and watch the event at 10:30 am AEST on the date.

This event encourages Australians in helping to raise funds for the remote communities and assist in improving the lives and possibilities of Indigenous Australians through literacy programs. This is so children as well as other individuals can build knowledge and understand the world through reading and different stories, including those that resonate with their culture.

Last year, Jellystone Designs launched the Coolamon Pendant in collaboration with Tanika Davis from The I Am Movement, an organisation that aims to provide culturally appropriate learning resources to Aboriginal families. The Coolamon is a carrying vessel utilised by Aboriginal Communities which we have taken inspiration from to create our unique chew pendant.

With every pendant we sell, we donate $2 to the  Indigenous Literacy Foundation to assist and support their goal in bringing joy and education to those who need it.
